The Nigeria Police Force will officially commence the training of 10,000 newly recruited constables on Saturday, April 12, across various police colleges and training schools nationwide.

This was made known in a press statement issued Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the statement, the training is part of the Force’s strategic plan to bolster law enforcement capabilities and enhance public safety across the country.

In preparation for the training, the Force Headquarters held an orientation ceremony for commandants and directing staff of the training institutions on Friday in preparation for the exercise.

Speaking virtually at the session, the Inspector-General, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Frank Mba, charged the training officers to maintain the highest standards in line with ongoing reforms in the police.

He said, “The commandants of the training colleges and schools must embrace the ongoing police reforms, uphold the highest ethical standards, and demonstrate firm professional conduct throughout the course of the training.”

Egbetokun stressed that the welfare of the recruits would be a priority, noting that attention would be given to their feeding, accommodation, and the general training environment.

“The administration is committed to prioritizing the welfare of recruits in training, ensuring they have a stable and conducive environment throughout the period,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the Inspector-General charged the incoming recruits to exhibit good conduct and maintain the ethics of policing throughout their training and subsequent service.

“Recruits must be of good character and uphold positive policing ethics in the course of their training and career,” he stated.

Egbetokun also used the opportunity to express appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support to the Force, particularly the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security in the country.

“We thank the President and Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his dedication and commitment towards improving the operational strength and capability of the Nigeria Police Force,” the IG said.

The training marks a major milestone in the development of Nigeria’s law enforcement development efforts and is expected to boost the capacity of the Police to better serve communities and ensure national security.
