Armed police officers have taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja, as tension escalates ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for today.
Reports indicate that police personnel blocked access to the premises, including barring a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, Maina Chiroma, from entering. Sources within the party told Channels Television that the heavy police presence is intended to stop a planned NEC Expanded Caucus Meeting.
While some PDP staff were initially allowed into the building, they were later asked to vacate the premises. Journalists were also instructed to leave the area.
In addition to guarding the secretariat, police officers cordoned off Dalaba Street, the main access road leading to Wadata Plaza.
