Police Announce Restriction Of Movement

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a restriction of movement across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The restriction will begin at midnight on Friday, August 14, 2026, and remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, announced the directive in a statement issued on Friday.

The police called on residents to obey the movement restriction and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state during the election.

According to the police, only individuals and movements granted exemption by the relevant authorities will be allowed during the restricted period.

The force also restated its decision to prevent Amotekun and other non-state security groups from taking part in election security operations.

The police said election-related security duties would only be handled by security agencies legally recognised under the Constitution and laws of Nigeria, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force.

The directive covers vigilante groups, non-state security organisations and other bodies that are not legally authorised to perform security duties during the election.

The police warned such groups to stay away from polling units and other election-related security activities.

It also urged them to avoid actions that could frighten voters, interfere with voting or create tension and disorder across the state.

The movement restriction is part of the security measures being put in place ahead of the Osun governorship election, as authorities prepare for the exercise and seek to maintain peace across the state.
