Bayern Munich delivered a remarkable comeback performance on Saturday as Michael Olise stole the spotlight with two goals and three assists in a dominant 6–2 victory over Freiburg at the Allianz Arena.
Despite falling behind early, Bayern roared back with clinical finishing and fluid attacking play to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Olise served as the architect of Bayern’s revival, laying on goals for Lennart Karl, Dayot Upamecano, and Nicolas Jackson, while also scoring twice himself. Harry Kane added his trademark strike as the Bavarians overturned a sluggish start that saw Freiburg score twice through Yuito Suzuki and Johan Manzambi.
The result pushed Bayern eight points clear after Borussia Dortmund faltered at home against Stuttgart.
Speaking with Sky Germany, Karl reflected on the difficult opening stages:
“We conceded twice from set pieces—it was a difficult start. But then we came back well, scoring six goals. Everything worked out in the end.”
Midfielder Aleksander Pavlovic, who assisted Kane’s goal, reserved high praise for the 17-year-old Karl, saying, “I’ve never seen a player with so much self-confidence at his age. He’s an amazing player and it’s so fun to play with him.”
With a Champions League trip to Arsenal on Wednesday, coach Vincent Kompany adjusted his lineup, resting captain Joshua Kimmich and leaving Serge Gnabry on the bench. Those decisions appeared risky as Freiburg capitalised on two dead-ball situations to establish an early edge.

But Bayern eventually settled, and the comeback began when Karl sprinted onto an Olise through-ball and slid the ball into the bottom corner. The young winger then provided the assist for Olise to equalise with a deflected shot.
Karl thought he had doubled his tally shortly after the restart, only for VAR to rule the goal offside. Bayern pressed on, and Upamecano nudged in an Olise corner to turn the match in their favour.
Kane soon joined the scoring frenzy, smashing in Bayern’s fourth. The England captain now boasts 24 goals in 18 outings across all competitions, including 14 strikes in 11 Bundesliga matches this season.
Olise’s sharp vision unlocked Freiburg’s back line once more as he set up Jackson for Bayern’s fifth before capping off a sensational personal display with a late goal of his own. Bayern have now dropped only two points across their opening 18 matches in all competitions.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund twice surrendered the lead in a pulsating 3–3 draw with Stuttgart. German forward Deniz Undav registered a second-half hat-trick, cancelling out goals from Emre Can, Maximilian Beier, and a late effort from Karim Adeyemi. Undav struck again in stoppage time to frustrate the hosts, who have now gone seven matches without victory against Stuttgart, dating back to October 2022.

Bayer Leverkusen continued their impressive form with a commanding 3–1 triumph away to Wolfsburg. Goals from Jonas Hofmann, Edmond Tapsoba, and Malik Tillman lifted the defending Bundesliga champions into second place. Leverkusen have collected 22 points from a possible 27 under Kasper Hjulmand, who replaced Erik ten Hag after just two league games.
In other fixtures, Anton Kade’s lone strike secured a 1–0 win for Augsburg against Hamburg, while Borussia Moenchengladbach deepened Heidenheim’s relegation troubles with a convincing 3–0 victory away from home.
Promoted Cologne hosts Eintracht Frankfurt later on Saturday.
