Authorities have confirmed that all 10 people aboard a missing Cessna 208B Grand Caravan have perished after the aircraft’s wreckage was discovered near Nome, Alaska. The privately operated plane disappeared Thursday afternoon while flying from Unalakleet to Nome, losing contact mid-flight.
The United States Coast Guard located the wreckage about 550 miles northwest of Anchorage, with personnel spotting three bodies inside. Coast Guard spokesperson Mike Salerno stated that the crash was not survivable.
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed condolences, urging residents to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts. The tragedy comes amid a series of recent aviation accidents in the U.S., including a fatal midair collision near Washington, D.C., and a medical transport crash in Philadelphia.
