The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, at its filling stations in Abuja and nearby areas.
A market check on Tuesday showed that NNPCL stations were selling petrol at N1,270 per litre, up from the previous price of N1,250 per litre.
The latest adjustment represents an increase of N20 per litre.
The price increase comes as the Dangote Refinery expands its free petrol delivery programme to more locations across the country.
Abuja is among the areas covered by the programme, with petrol supplied at N1,185 per litre under the arrangement.
The latest NNPCL price increase has also affected the prices at other major filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory.
MRS filling stations recently increased their petrol price by N20, bringing it to N1,230 per litre.
Following the latest adjustment, NNPCL petrol is now more expensive than the product sold at several other filling stations in Abuja and surrounding areas.
MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab and Mobil were among the stations selling petrol below the new NNPCL price.
However, some independent filling stations continued to sell above NNPCL’s latest rate.
Empire and AA Rano, for instance, were selling petrol between N1,275 and N1,299 per litre.
As a result, motorists in Abuja and nearby areas are currently paying between N1,230 and N1,299 for a litre of petrol, depending on the filling station.
