Nigerian University vice chancellor resigns
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State, Professor Ismaila A. Mungadi, has resigned from his position, citing growing challenges that affected his ability to carry out his duties effectively.
Mungadi announced his resignation on Friday, August 28, 2026, in a letter addressed to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council.
His resignation took effect on the same day.
The professor explained that he took up the acting vice-chancellorship with the responsibility of helping to stabilise the young institution, improve its governance, rebuild confidence in the university and protect academic standards.
He also had the task of supporting the institution’s transition to permanent leadership.
Mungadi said he committed himself to the assignment after assuming office and worked with members of the university community and other stakeholders towards achieving the goals set for his administration.
However, he said developments in recent weeks had created conditions that made it increasingly difficult for him to carry out his responsibilities with the independence and effectiveness required for the position.
The former acting vice-chancellor said he had tried to resolve the problems through the proper university structures. Despite those efforts, he said the situation had reached a point where he could no longer be certain of achieving the objectives attached to his appointment.
Mungadi said continuing in office under such circumstances would not serve the interests of the university. He therefore decided that stepping down was the best option.
The professor thanked the Visitor and the Kebbi State Government for giving him the opportunity to serve and for the confidence placed in him.
He also appreciated the members of the Governing Council, academic and non-academic staff, students and other members of the university community for their support and cooperation during his time in office.
Mungadi further promised to support an orderly handover of the university’s affairs following his resignation. He said he would remain available to assist with the transition and ensure that the process was carried out smoothly.
His departure comes at a crucial time for Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, which is still developing its administrative and academic structures.
Mungadi urged the university authorities and other stakeholders to protect the progress already made and continue efforts aimed at building a stable institution with strong academic standards and proper governance.
The circumstances surrounding his resignation are expected to draw attention to the running of the relatively new university and the level of independence available to its leadership in managing its affairs.
