Former PDP Governorship Candidate Dumps Party
Former Ondo State governorship candidate Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following the prolonged crisis affecting the opposition party.
Jegede made his decision known in a resignation letter dated August 7, 2026, which was addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 11, Owode/Imagun Ward, Akure South Local Government Area, Fabiyi Kole Adewale.
The former governorship candidate formally notified the ward leadership that he was leaving the party and stated that his resignation took effect immediately.
His exit comes as the PDP continues to face internal disagreements and leadership problems in different parts of the country.
The crisis has created divisions among members and raised concerns about the party’s ability to maintain unity ahead of future political contests.
Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been a prominent figure in Ondo State politics and previously represented the PDP as its candidate in the Ondo State governorship election.
His resignation means the party has lost another well-known member at a time when it is dealing with efforts to resolve its internal disputes and strengthen its structure.
