In a determined push against insurgency, troops of Sector Two under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully neutralized three Boko Haram terrorists during a clearance operation in Borno Yesu, near Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.

The mission was carried out in Bulabulin Forest and involved a joint task force comprising Sector Two troops, Nigerian Air Force units, Special Forces operatives, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The collaborative effort culminated in a heavy firefight that led to the deaths of three terrorists, while several others managed to flee with gunshot wounds.

Major General Abdulsallam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of OPHK, confirmed the operation’s outcome and praised the troops for their resilience under hostile fire. “Our troops, under close surveillance and guidance of the Air Component Command and with the support of the Civilian Joint Task Force, engaged Boko Haram elements during an operation in Bulabulin Forest. The troops killed three of them while others escaped with varying degrees of injuries,” he disclosed.

Following the confrontation, the military recovered an array of weapons and logistics items from the site. These included two brand new motorcycles, AK-47 rifles, four magazines fully loaded with ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm bullets, grenades, two bandoliers, and combat gear.

General Abubakar emphasized that Sector Two—responsible for operational coverage in parts of Borno and Yobe States—has remained proactive through continuous long-range patrols and sustained offensives in regions such as the Timbuktu Triangle. The area is widely regarded as a major haven for Boko Haram operatives.

“Troops of Sector Two have been combing the forest around the Timbuktu Triangle. It is a hideout for terrorists, and many communities trapped there are now being liberated,” he explained, suggesting a strategic effort to reclaim not just territory but also civilian safety.

He further mentioned that Borno Yesu, among other communities previously devastated by insurgents, is being gradually reclaimed by Nigerian forces through ongoing military operations. These efforts reflect a broader goal of restoring normalcy and governance to regions long under siege.

What You Should Know

Borno Yesu is one of several Nigerian communities once overrun and destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents. Thanks to the relentless efforts of Operation Hadin Kai, led by Major General Abdulsallam Abubakar, troops are reclaiming these territories.

With strategic offensives in known terrorist hideouts like the Timbuktu Triangle, the Nigerian military is making steady progress in dismantling the insurgency and restoring security to the northeast.
