A prominent youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Shitu Adamu Evuti, has officially resigned from the party and declared his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a resignation letter dated July 18, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Evuti/Kpada Ward, Lapai Local Government Area, Evuti cited unresolved internal crises at the national level as the primary reason for his departure.

“I wish to formally tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he stated in the letter.

Evuti, who served as the PDP State Youth Leader following the 2023 death of his predecessor, Mohammed Usman Vatsa (widely known as Challl), also represented the party as a candidate for the Niger State House of Assembly in 2019. He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform and opportunities provided during his political journey.

He thanked his constituents in Evuti/Kpada Ward, Lapai LGA, and the entire Niger South Senatorial District for their consistent support and trust over the years. Evuti explained that his decision to defect followed extensive consultations with his supporters, community members, and political stakeholders.

In his words, “To the PDP family, I humbly seek forgiveness from anyone I may have offended during my time in the party. Personally, I bear no grudges and have forgiven anyone who may have wronged me.”

He pledged to continue his political advocacy and service under the ADC, which he described as a more progressive and people-focused platform.

Copies of his resignation letter were also forwarded to the PDP Chairmen at both the local and state levels.

Evuti’s move is anticipated to influence youth political engagement and dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly within the opposition landscape in Niger State.
