New Police commissioner appointed for state
The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbegbagha as the new Commissioner of Police for the Taraba State Command.
The approval was given after Ogbegbagha appeared before the commission during an interview session at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The session was led by the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), as part of the process for assessing officers considered for key police commands.
The commission directed Ogbegbagha to maintain professionalism and political neutrality as he begins his new assignment in Taraba State.
He was also reminded of the need to protect the public and carry out his responsibilities fairly, particularly as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
Ogbegbagha brings more than 25 years of experience in the Nigeria Police Force to his new position.
Before his latest posting, he served at the Force Headquarters in Abuja as the Force Provost Marshal.
He assumed the position of Force Provost Marshal in March 2026, where he was responsible for duties connected to discipline and order within the police force.
His posting to Taraba comes at a time when security agencies are preparing for the political activities and electoral processes expected ahead of the 2027 elections.
The new commissioner is expected to take charge of policing operations across Taraba State and work with other security agencies and relevant authorities to maintain law and order.
