Mourning as Shettima dies
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has expressed sadness over the death of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abdullahi Shettima, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 93.
Zulum described the late police officer as one of Borno State’s respected sons who served Nigeria with dedication for many years.
He said Shettima spent over three decades in the Nigeria Police Force, where he worked with discipline and commitment during his service years.
The governor noted that the deceased belonged to an older generation of officers who helped shape the police system in the country.
He added that Shettima was among the few remaining early police officers from Borno State and was widely respected for his experience and guidance to younger officers.
He also mentioned that the late DIG was an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, where he gained further knowledge in national development and leadership matters.
Zulum said the death of Shettima is a painful loss not only to his family but also to Borno State and Nigeria.
He described him as a man who lived a life of service and left behind a record of duty and honour.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and asked God to grant him peaceful rest while also giving his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
