Former Big Brother Naija star Kiddwaya, whose real name is Terseer Waya, faces intense backlash after posting a public appeal for donations to aid victims of recent deadly attacks in Benue State.
The billionaire heir’s call for contributions via his Kiddwaya Foundation was criticized by social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), who accused Kiddwaya of exploiting the tragedy without visiting the affected communities.
The violence in Benue’s Yelewata and Daudu areas, attributed to suspected herdsmen, killed over 200 and displaced thousands on June 13. Kiddwaya’s plea urged Nigerians to donate as little as ₦500 to provide food and shelter, but VDM condemned it, stating, “Kiddwaya, you are shameless. How would you know what Benue people need when you didn’t even go there? I’m happy no one contributed.” VDM argued that security, not relief, is Benue’s priority.
Critics, including BBNaija’s Deeone, mocked Kiddwaya’s wealth—citing his $30,000 jollof rice purchase for Whitemoney—and questioned why he didn’t fund the effort himself.
Social media users echoed the sentiment, with one user writing, “Kiddwaya spent $30k on jollof rice but begs for N500 for Benue?” Others doubted the Kiddwaya Foundation’s legitimacy, noting its lack of prior visibility.
Kiddwaya, who condemned the attacks on June 17, reportedly deleted the donation post amid the criticism but has not addressed the backlash publicly.
