Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has confirmed the arrest of 22 individuals linked to the brutal killing of 12 Kaduna indigenes in Plateau State last Saturday.

The disclosure came during the governor’s visit to survivors receiving medical care at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

The victims, all en route from Zaria in Kaduna State to attend a wedding in the Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau, were ambushed and murdered by a mob in Mangun District, Mangu Local Government Area. Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in what has been widely condemned as a senseless act of violence.

Governor Sani, visibly shaken by the ordeal of the victims, described the attack as barbaric and utterly inhumane. Addressing reporters during the hospital visit, he stressed that no act of such cruelty would be allowed to go unpunished.

“I am in close contact with Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State and President Bola Tinubu. We are aligned in our resolve to ensure justice is served and that those responsible are brought to book,” the governor said.

He expressed appreciation to Kaduna residents for maintaining peace despite the emotionally charged nature of the tragedy, urging them not to take laws into their hands. Instead, he appealed for calm and restraint while the authorities carry out thorough investigations and prosecutions.

Sani also called on traditional and community leaders in Plateau State to take responsibility for guiding their people away from violent actions that threaten intercommunal harmony.

He reiterated his earlier call on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively in apprehending and prosecuting those behind the killings. His appeal, initially made just hours after the attack was confirmed, seems to have yielded results with the reported arrests of 22 suspects.

The massacre has sent shockwaves across the country, reviving conversations around ethno-religious tensions, communal distrust, and the long-standing security challenges plaguing the Middle Belt region.

Governor Sani’s administration has vowed to stand by the families of the victims, offering not just moral support but also working closely with security agencies to prevent such tragedies in the future.
