JAMB Announces Fee For O-level Result Verification
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-time N4,000 fee for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The two examination bodies announced the arrangement in a joint statement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, saying candidates whose admissions are processed through JAMB will be required to verify their O’Level results only once through the JAMB Verification Service platform.
Under the new system, the result of the verification will be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
JAMB and WAEC said the arrangement was introduced to reduce the financial burden and stress faced by candidates who are often required to verify their results separately at different institutions.
They explained that candidates would pay N4,000 for the verification exercise and that the payment would be made through the designated JAMB platform rather than directly to the institution where admission is being sought.
The examination bodies directed tertiary institutions to rely on the verified results provided through JAMB for admission screening, processing and other related administrative activities.
They also stated that candidates who have successfully completed the verification would not be required to pay for another verification, even when the same result is being used by more than one institution.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcome with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes under the new arrangement.
According to the bodies, the system will also allow candidates to initiate the verification process from their homes or any location with internet access, reducing the need for repeated visits to schools or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to make use of the verification service and complete the process once to avoid unnecessary expenses and delays during admission.
They said the collaboration was aimed at making the admission process easier for candidates while protecting the accuracy and security of academic records.
