Iyabo Ojo Defends Daughter Against Tanzanian Media Personality’s Threats

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has fiercely defended her daughter, Priscilla Ojo, after Tanzanian media personality Mange Kimambi issued a public warning to the young influencer and her Tanzanian husband, Juma Jux, over their social media content.

The dispute, which has sparked widespread attention online, centers on Kimambi’s claim that the couple’s posts are distracting Tanzanians ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Kimambi criticized Priscilla and Juma’s content as “stupid” and urged them to halt their online activity for five months to avoid inciting “hate” from Tanzanians.

The remarks prompted a swift and scathing response from Iyabo Ojo, who took to Instagram to condemn Kimambi’s statements as “intimidation” and an overreach.

Iyabo, a prominent actress and activist, emphasized her daughter’s right to express herself freely, asserting that Priscilla and Juma, who reside in Tanzania, are not subject to Kimambi’s directives.

Noting that Kimambi lives in the United States, Ojo called her attempt to control the couple’s actions “laughable” and unacceptable. “I’m appalled by your audacity!” Ojo wrote. “Referring to my daughter and her husband in such a manner, calling their content stupid, and trying to drum up fear and intimidation—this is unacceptable. As a parent, I’ve taught her to be confident and authentic.”

Addressing rumors about Priscilla’s recent wedding, Ojo clarified that the elaborate ceremony held in Nigeria was funded by her family, in line with their cultural traditions, and not by the Tanzanian government.

She reiterated her commitment to activism, stating, “True leadership requires presence and courage,” and warned Kimambi to “keep my daughter out of your affairs.”

Iyabo’s post concluded with a resolute defense of her daughter’s autonomy: “She’ll post what she likes, when she likes, and how she likes. She doesn’t need you to love her. She is very loved and well-loved. We protect our own.”

Read Iyabo’s full write-up:

I’m appalled by your audacity! Referring to my daughter and her husband in such a manner, calling their content stupid, and trying to drum up fear and intimidation—this is unacceptable. As a parent, I’ve taught her to be confident and authentic. The Mkambala are very peaceful, but note I don’t joke with my daughter.

Regarding the wedding rumors, it’s not your government that gave us money; it’s a cultural tradition in my family—the wife’s family covers costs. I wanted an elaborate wedding for my daughter in Nigeria, and we, the Nigerians, gave her one.

I’m an activist, and as one, I stand by my principles and fight for what I believe in, without insulting anyone or targeting anyone. True leadership requires presence and courage. It’s laughable that you, living in America, think you can dictate to my daughter and her husband, who are living their lives in Tanzania.

Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She’ll post what she likes, when she likes, and how she likes. She doesn’t need you to love her. She is very loved and well-loved.

We protect our own…. Never forget that…

As of now, Kimambi has not responded to Ojo’s rebuttal, leaving the online community awaiting further developments in this exchange.
