Iranian judicial authorities have carried out the execution of a man identified as Roozbeh Vadi, who was convicted of espionage for Israel.
Vadi was accused of providing sensitive details about a nuclear scientist who was assassinated during the recent 12-day military confrontation between Iran and Israel, which escalated in mid-June.
The judiciary, through its Mizan Online platform, disclosed that Vadi’s death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court before it was enforced. His punishment was administered by hanging, though the timeline regarding his arrest and trial remains undisclosed by officials.
According to Mizan, Vadi had been recruited through online channels by Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency. After being enlisted, he allegedly transmitted classified information to his handlers. The nature of the information was not specified, but it was reportedly connected to the identity and activities of a nuclear scientist killed in what Iranian authorities described as a “Zionist regime’s recent aggression.”
The 12-day conflict, initiated by Israel with a wave of aerial bombardments targeting both military assets and civilian zones in Iran, resulted in a significant loss of life. Among the dead were top military figures and nuclear scientists. Local media sources reported that at least twelve nuclear scientists were among the fatalities.
In the aftermath of the hostilities, Iran committed to swift judicial action against anyone suspected of espionage or collaboration with Israel. Authorities have since made several arrests linked to alleged Mossad connections, and have carried out a series of executions related to these charges.
The Iranian government continues to treat cases of espionage with grave severity, particularly amid growing international scrutiny over its nuclear program and internal security. Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have long criticized Iran’s use of capital punishment. The country remains one of the world’s leading enforcers of the death penalty, second only to China.
