The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has declared its full support for the bill proposing reserved seats for women in the National and State Assemblies, reaffirming its commitment to promoting gender inclusion in governance.
In a communiqué released early Friday after their meeting, the governors encouraged members to actively engage and lobby federal and state lawmakers to ensure the bill’s passage. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution by creating special constituencies to be contested solely by women—a measure designed to enhance female representation in Nigeria’s political landscape temporarily.

The forum also praised the Federal Government’s economic reforms, especially the policies implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), describing them as essential steps toward stabilizing the economy. The governors expressed readiness to continue collaborating with federal authorities to strengthen fiscal management and sustain recovery efforts.

Addressing national security, the NGF reaffirmed its resolve to confront the country’s growing threats through closer coordination with the Department of State Services (DSS). The governors emphasized that safeguarding citizens’ lives and property remains a collective priority requiring unified action across all levels of government.
