Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has publicly addressed a viral video allegedly released by a member of his family regarding the death of his wife, affirming that his family remains united and undistracted by the resurfacing of old controversies.
Speaking to Government House correspondents at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo during the 60th birthday celebration of former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere on Saturday, Governor Eno described the video as a calculated distraction by political detractors.
“We are in political times, so you can expect more of that,” he stated. “My family is intact, and you can see everyone here with me.”
He questioned the timing of the video’s resurgence, pointing out that the incident being referenced occurred shortly after his wife’s passing last year. “Why is it surfacing and trending now, on the eve of our second anniversary, when we are celebrating milestones we have achieved?” he asked.
The governor emphasized that the resurfacing of such a painful memory was both insensitive and unwarranted, especially for his children who are still processing the loss of their mother. “The pressure on the children when they lose a loved one can be traumatic,” he noted.
Calling for public understanding and empathy, he said, “It is enough that I have lost my wife. I pray that they allow her peaceful soul to rest in peace.”
Governor Eno reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the ARISE Agenda and to serving the people of Akwa Ibom. “I cannot be distracted. I remain focused… I do not wish what happened to me on anyone,” he added. “So, to those spreading these rumours, if that is what they wish for themselves, I wish them luck.”
In a lighter moment, the governor extended his congratulations to Obong Nsima Ekere, praying for God’s continued strength, long life, and wisdom for the former deputy governor as he marks his 60th birthday.
