Frederick Leonard Sues Media Personality Stanley Ontop for Defamation

Prominent Nollywood actor Frederick Leonard has escalated a long-running dispute with filmmaker and media personality Stanley Chibueze Ajemba, professionally known as Stanley Ontop, filing a formal defamation petition with the Delta State Police Command.

The legal action, filed through Leonard’s attorneys at Uche Okoro & Co. and dated January 28, 2026, alleges that Stanley Ontop has engaged in a sustained campaign to damage the actor’s public image over an extended period.

According to the petition, Leonard accuses the media personality of “persistently defaming his reputation unprovoked for over two years.” The legal document reportedly details claims that Stanley Ontop has been feeding negative narratives about the actor to the public, though specific allegations mentioned in these narratives have not been disclosed in available reports.

The actor’s legal team argues that these actions constitute defamation under Nigerian law, which protects individuals from false statements that harm their reputation.

In a move that signals his determination to pursue the matter, Leonard took to Instagram on Monday morning to announce the legal action publicly. Sharing images of the petition letter, the actor issued a stern warning to Stanley Ontop and potentially others.

“Mr. Stanley Chibueze Ajemba, a.k.a. Stanley Ontop. You have been served; the law will take its course to the full extent,” Leonard wrote in his Instagram post. “You first, others will follow. If you claim or allege, you must prove with evidence. I’m coming for you.”

The phrase “others will follow” suggests Leonard may be preparing additional legal actions against other parties he believes have similarly damaged his reputation.

This case highlights growing tensions within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where social media has become both a platform for promotion and a potential minefield for reputation management. The incident underscores the increasingly litigious approach some celebrities are taking when faced with what they perceive as character assassination.

Defamation cases in Nigeria require plaintiffs to prove that false statements were made, published to third parties, and caused damage to their reputation. Leonard’s insistence that accusers “must prove with evidence” suggests he’s prepared to challenge the veracity of claims made against him.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Nollywood actor Frederick Leonard has filed a defamation petition against media personality Stanley Ontop with the Delta State Police, alleging two years of unprovoked reputation damage.

Leonard publicly announced the legal action on Instagram with a stern warning—”I’m coming for you”—and indicated more lawsuits may follow against others.

The case underscores growing legal confrontations in Nigeria’s entertainment industry over social media-based reputation attacks, with Leonard demanding that accusers back their claims with evidence or face full legal consequences.
