In a significant move to enhance the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced a ₦10,000 increase in the monthly stipend of corps members serving in the state.
The adjustment raises the allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000 and marks a notable effort by the state government to support young graduates undergoing their national service.
Governor Fintiri made the announcement on Friday while officially opening the 2025 Batch B Stream I NYSC Orientation Camp in Damare. Speaking at the ceremony, he emphasized the importance of appreciating and encouraging corps members for their service to the nation.
Posting on his official X account (formerly Twitter), the governor stated: “Today, I declared open the 2025 Batch B Stream I NYSC Orientation in Damare. I announced an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000. We’re also set to build a new NYSC camp, with professionals in relevant fields engaged in the project.”
Fintiri also disclosed that beyond the increase in allowance, the state government has commenced plans to construct a brand-new NYSC orientation camp. According to him, professionals have already been brought on board to ensure the successful delivery of the project, which is expected to improve the living and training conditions of corps members.
This development comes on the heels of a similar adjustment in Akwa Ibom State, where Governor Umo Eno raised corps members’ monthly stipends to ₦20,000. That increment was described as a complement to the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance, aimed at helping corps members meet daily living expenses.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” Eno said at the time, reaffirming the state’s commitment to youth development.
The NYSC scheme, established in 1973, is a one-year mandatory service program for Nigerian graduates below the age of 30. It was initiated to promote national unity and integration by deploying young professionals to states outside their region of origin, where they contribute to community development through various public service roles.
