The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in employment, training, and entrepreneurship. During a public hearing organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Disability Matters in Abuja, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment emphasized its commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, underscored the ministry’s ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers faced by PWDs in the workforce. She highlighted various initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility to job opportunities, financial support, and vocational training to empower individuals with disabilities. The ministry also stressed the importance of inclusive hiring practices and workplace modifications to accommodate diverse needs.

Onyejeocha acknowledged that while progress has been made, there is still much to be done to ensure that PWDs are fully integrated into the labor market. She reiterated the ministry’s call for stricter enforcement of policies, increased financial support for PWD-owned businesses, and enhanced public awareness campaigns. Through continuous policy implementation and collaboration with stakeholders, the ministry remains committed to championing economic empowerment for PWDs in Nigeria.
