The Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammad Sami II (rtd), has died at the age of 81 in a London hospital.
His passing was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, who told Channels Television on Sunday. Sami, who once served as the military governor of Bauchi State during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration between 1984 and 1985, was described as a respected leader and father figure.
Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep sorrow over the news, noting that the late Emir was an elder statesman whose wisdom and devotion to the well-being of his people left a lasting impact.
The Emir is survived by four wives and seven children. In a condolence message, the Kebbi State Government mourned his death, highlighting his contributions to peace and development in Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State at large.
“The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi State. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement read.

The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami, has passed away on Saturday night.
The Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsinmari disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
The Monarch died at the age of 81 years in a London hospital after an illness.
He left behind four wives and seven children.
The Kebbi State Government is using this medium to extend its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, Zuru Emirate Council, Zuru people and the entire people of Kebbi State.
May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
