Summary
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially secured his membership card from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
After completing his registration at his ward in Ungwan Sariki, located in Kaduna North Local Government Area, El-Rufai shared his optimism that the ADC would serve as a credible alternative for Nigerians who wish to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He criticised the APC for what he described as incompetence and urged young Nigerians aged 18 and above to obtain their ADC membership cards, adding that the step would empower them to support their preferred candidates in the coming election cycle.
El-Rufai was among the coalition of opposition leaders who, in July, endorsed the ADC as the political vehicle to challenge and potentially unseat the APC-led government in 2027. In line with the party’s restructuring efforts, a former Senate President, David Mark—who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—was appointed interim national chairman. Additionally, former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, was named interim national secretary.
His official entry into the party follows just three days after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar announced his own membership in the coalition party. Atiku disclosed his decision through a brief post on his X handle, accompanied by photos showing him holding his ADC membership card, writing simply, “It’s official.”

El-Rufai was also present last week when the ADC unveiled its new national secretariat in Wuse 2, Abuja, a move aimed at strengthening the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections. The event was led by David Mark, who, along with other party leaders, officially commissioned the facility.
