Former Inspector General Of Police, Kayode Egbetokun is reportedly set to contest for a seat in the Senate to represent Ogun West Senatorial District, even as he continues to stay at the official residence meant for the serving Inspector General.
Sources within the police told SaharaReporters that Egbetokun has not vacated the IG house despite his removal from office.
He is said to be making moves to secure the senatorial ticket for his district in Ogun State.
Egbetokun is from Erinja in Yewa South Local Government Area, which falls under Ogun West.
“Egbetokun has stayed at the police IG house and is plotting to be allowed to be the senatorial candidate for his Ogun State Senatorial District,” a top police source told SaharaReporters.
Recall that last week, President Bola Tinubu directed him to step down as Inspector General of Police.
His exit came after months of public debate over his continued stay in office beyond the official retirement age of 60 years or 35 years in service.
Following his removal, Tunji Disu was appointed as the new Inspector General. Disu had previously headed the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
