Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in vote buying during the Anambra State governorship election.
The arrests were made in different locations across the state as part of the anti-graft agency’s efforts to curb electoral malpractices.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued from Abuja, explaining that the suspects were detained following credible intelligence reports and field surveillance by operatives deployed to monitor the polls.

According to Oyewale, the arrests took place in Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area; Ward 2(008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area; and Umunachi Village, Dunukofia Local Government Area. The suspects were reportedly caught either offering money to voters or receiving cash in exchange for their votes.
“All the suspects were arrested while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale stated.
The EFCC has maintained its commitment to ensuring credible elections by closely monitoring polling activities and responding swiftly to reports of financial inducement. The commission’s intervention is part of a broader national strategy to reduce vote trading and promote transparency in Nigeria’s democratic process.
