Diamond Platnumz Fuels New Romance Rumours

The six-year romance between two of East Africa’s biggest music stars has come to a very public end, and the fallout is still playing out in real time on social media.

Zuchu, born Zuhura Othman Soud, broke the news herself on Sunday, July 12, posting an emotional statement to her Instagram Stories confirming that she and her husband, Bongo Flava mogul Diamond Platnumz, had separated and were now working through a divorce.

The 32-year-old singer said she had made the difficult decision after six years together, framing it as a moment to put herself first. She struck a note of resignation rather than bitterness, closing her message with an Islamic phrase, “Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal Wakeel,” meaning “Allah is sufficient for me,” that signaled she was leaning on faith to get through the moment.

Diamond, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, has not issued any public statement addressing the breakup.

The announcement did not come out of nowhere. Fans had been on high alert for days after Zuchu was conspicuously absent from a birthday celebration for Diamond’s mother, Sandra Kassim known widely as Mama Dangote held the day before her statement. That absence, in a relationship long lived out in public, was enough to set tongues wagging across East African entertainment circles.

Matters intensified further just hours before Zuchu’s post, when a close associate of Diamond’s publicly claimed that Zuchu was pregnant.

Notably, Zuchu made no mention of the pregnancy claim in her own statement, leaving that particular rumor unresolved and fueling even more chatter among followers trying to piece together what had actually happened behind the scenes.

Less than 48 hours after Zuchu went public, Diamond posted an image of an unidentified woman to his own Instagram Stories, a move that immediately stoked speculation of a new romance despite offering no confirmation or context.

He accompanied the post with the caption “Natulizana,” Swahili for “we are at peace” a phrase that, given the timing, many interpreted as a pointed response to the breakup rather than a coincidence.

The post landed like a match on dry grass online. Fans and commentators quickly connected the timing to the divorce announcement, with reactions ranging from disappointment to outright criticism of Diamond’s handling of the situation.

Adding another layer to the public drama, Diamond was also spotted arriving late and dressed unconventionally to the wedding reception of fellow musician Juma Jux around the same period, further keeping him in the entertainment headlines during an already turbulent week.

For longtime followers of Diamond’s personal life, the sequence has an uncomfortably familiar ring to it. Zari Hassan, the mother of two of Diamond’s children and his partner before Zuchu, announced her own split from the singer via social media back in 2018 a parallel several commentators were quick to point out this week.

Zari has since weighed in publicly on the current situation, commending Zuchu for the grace with which she handled her announcement.

Zuchu and Diamond’s relationship has essentially unfolded on camera since rumors first surfaced in 2020, not long after she joined his WCB Wasafi record label.

The label relationship became a launching pad for her career she was signed following an audition arranged through her mother, veteran taarab singer Khadija Kopa, and went on to release hits including Sukari, Cheche, Wana and Honey, cementing her status as one of the continent’s most successful female artists.

The couple’s romantic relationship followed a well-documented rhythm of breakups and reconciliations. Zuchu first announced a split in November 2024, only for the pair to reunite weeks later. By mid-2025, reports emerged of a private Islamic wedding ceremony, and Diamond began publicly referring to Zuchu as his wife.

Neither party has detailed the reasons behind the split, and with a history of on-again, off-again reconciliations, some fans remain skeptical that this separation is final.

But the optics Zuchu’s statement, the unaddressed pregnancy claim, and Diamond’s swift “Natulizana” post featuring another woman have combined to make this round of speculation louder and more pointed than in years past.

Both artists remain commercial heavyweights in East African entertainment, with concert fees and endorsement deals reportedly running into the billions of shillings.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Zuchu confirmed her divorce from Diamond Platnumz on July 12 after six years together, citing a need to prioritize herself, without addressing swirling pregnancy rumors.

Within 48 hours, Diamond posted an unidentified woman on his Instagram with a caption meaning “we are at peace” a move widely read as a signal, even though nothing has been officially confirmed by either side.

Given their history of repeated splits and reconciliations, the real takeaway is: nothing here is confirmed as final, and much of the “story” is still speculation built on social media optics rather than statements from Diamond himself, who has stayed silent throughout.
