Leaders of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) recently held a meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja to explore ways to work together and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
The discussions are seen as part of preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ADP National Chairman Yabagi Sani explained that the meeting aimed to support the country’s multi-party system and create opportunities for opposition parties to function effectively. He added that the party is engaging with other political groups and youth organizations to ensure that opposition movements have viable options and can avoid legal or technical challenges that might weaken their chances during elections.
The ADP leaders noted that the talks are part of broader consultations with like-minded political figures to explore collaboration and build a united approach that can provide alternatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The focus of the discussions included sustaining democratic competition, developing strategies to maintain multiple platforms for the opposition, and finding ways to address national issues collaboratively.
The party said these meetings are ongoing and involve various opposition groups, civic organizations, and political stakeholders, all working to strengthen democratic processes and ensure that opposition voices remain active and effective in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
