DDG Eyes Lagos Home Purchase as Custody Battle with Ex-girlfriend Intensifies

American rapper and YouTuber Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known professionally as DDG, has revealed his intention to purchase a home in Lagos, Nigeria, as his high-profile child custody dispute with ex-girlfriend, singer-actress Halle Bailey, continues to escalate.

The announcement, made via a post on X on Friday, June 6, 2025, comes at a time when legal tensions between the former couple are dominating headlines, with both parties vying for custody of their 17-month-old son, Halo Saint Granberry.

DDG, 27, took to X to inquire about prime real estate locations in Lagos, writing, “Finna buy a house in Lagos, Nigeria. What’s a good area?” The post follows his earlier comments in March 2025, where he expressed dissatisfaction with life in the United States and hinted at relocating to Nigeria for a fresh start.

DDG

While DDG did not elaborate on the specific motivations behind his decision to purchase property abroad, the timing of the announcement has sparked speculation about its connection to his ongoing legal battles and personal life.

The custody dispute between DDG and Bailey, 25, has grown increasingly contentious, with both parties leveling serious allegations against each other. Bailey, known for her role in ‘The Little Mermaid’ and as one-half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, was granted temporary physical and legal custody of Halo in May 2025 after accusing DDG of physical and emotional abuse.

According to court documents, Bailey alleged that DDG attacked her multiple times, including an incident in January 2025 where she claimed he slammed her face into a steering wheel, chipping her tooth. She also accused him of verbal and financial abuse, prompting her to secure a temporary restraining order (TRO) against him on May 13, 2025, which required DDG to maintain a 100-yard distance and refrain from posting about Bailey or Halo on social media.

In response, DDG filed a counter-petition on June 4, 2025, seeking a restraining order against Bailey and requesting sole legal and physical custody of Halo. In his filing, DDG alleged that Bailey poses an “imminent emotional and psychological risk” to their son, citing incidents where she reportedly threatened self-harm, including one instance during her pregnancy where she allegedly took his legally owned firearm and left the house in distress.

DDG further claimed that Bailey stabbed him in the hand with a knife, submitting photos of a cut on his thumb as evidence, and accused her of stalking him by placing AirTags on his vehicles. He also referenced a resurfaced video from one of his livestreams, which allegedly shows Bailey threatening him with a knife.

The legal drama intensified when DDG sought an emergency hearing to prevent Bailey from traveling to Italy with Halo, where she is scheduled to film a movie for two months starting June 7, 2025.

DDG argued that Bailey’s alleged mental instability made her unfit to care for Halo abroad, claiming that such a trip would place their son beyond the protective reach of U.S. courts.

However, on June 5, 2025, Judge Latrice A.G. Byrdsong denied DDG’s request to block Bailey’s travel plans, citing insufficient evidence of imminent risk to Halo.

The judge also declined DDG’s request for “no-contact” and “stay-away” orders but granted a limited TRO prohibiting Bailey from engaging in physical or emotional abuse. Halo remains in Bailey’s temporary sole custody until a full evidentiary hearing is scheduled for June 24, 2025.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

American rapper DDG’s announcement to purchase a home in Lagos, Nigeria, coincides with an escalating child custody battle with ex-girlfriend Halle Bailey over their 17-month-old son, Halo. As both parties trade serious allegations of abuse and instability, temporary custody is granted to Bailey, and a critical hearing is set for June 24, 2025.
