Davido Claims No One Can Beat Him in a Transparent Election

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has stirred fresh political conversation in Nigeria after declaring that he would be unbeatable in a genuinely free and fair election while simultaneously ruling out any immediate plans to run for office.

The 30BG boss made the comments during a livestream appearance with content creator Cater Efe, in what began as a casual conversation but veered into a pointed critique of Nigeria’s electoral system.

When the host asked whether he would ever consider governing a state, Davido’s response was blunt and delivered largely in Pidgin English, dismissing the idea outright given what he described as endemic result manipulation.

He suggested that any attempt to rig an election against him would provoke a strong reaction on his part before pivoting to a more measured stance that he would rather stay focused on his music career until Nigeria’s electoral process earns his confidence.

Davido insisted that nobody could beat him in any election, asserting he could win a Nigerian presidential race outright if the process were transparent. He was equally clear about the obstacle standing in the way: a system he believes is compromised by falsified results, leaving him unwilling to enter the fray under current conditions.

Notably, he also weighed in on the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election, saying he was watching closely to see how the process would unfold — a comment loaded with personal significance given Davido’s own entanglement in that very race.

The singer’s remarks arrive against a backdrop of his own deepening involvement in Osun State politics, where his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, is seeking re-election.

Earlier this year, Davido was named Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund and took on a leadership role in his uncle’s youth mobilisation campaign, marking what observers have called his most direct entry yet into governance-adjacent work.

He has since headlined youth rallies across the state and pledged to use his influence to turn out young voters ahead of the poll, which is scheduled for August 15.

Just this week, Davido announced a press conference at Imole House in Osogbo to address security arrangements, INEC’s preparedness, and broader questions of electoral transparency ahead of the vote, underscoring that while he insists he has no personal ambition to hold office, he has positioned himself as an active and vocal stakeholder in how the Osun contest is conducted.

Davido’s comments tap into a wider vein of public frustration in Nigeria, where debates over the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the integrity of vote collation have persisted for years.

His remarks, delivered informally on a livestream but quickly picked up by major Nigerian outlets, reflect how public figures, particularly musicians with the kind of youth following Davido commands, are increasingly weighing in on questions of political accountability, even as they stop short of formally entering the arena themselves.

Whether the Osun election delivers the transparency Davido says he is watching for remains to be seen. For now, the singer maintains that his focus remains on music, with politics, by his own account, reserved for a Nigeria that “writes results” more honestly.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Davido claims he’d be unbeatable in a genuinely free and fair Nigerian election, including the presidency, but he’s staying out of politics for now because he doesn’t trust the system to count votes honestly.

This isn’t just talk. He’s already hands-on in Osun State’s real-life gubernatorial race, backing his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid and pushing publicly for transparency ahead of the August 15 vote.

So while Davido isn’t running himself, he’s far from a bystander; his credibility claim is being tested in real time by an election he’s personally invested in.
