Chad has announced that citizens of all African countries, including Nigerians, will be allowed to enter the country without visas from January 1, 2027.
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision was aimed at promoting African integration and making the movement of people and goods across the continent easier.
The policy will place Chad among the growing number of African countries that allow visa-free entry to citizens from other African countries.
Déby said removing visa requirements would strengthen relationships among African countries and encourage greater movement across their borders.
According to him, the decision reflects Chad’s commitment to African unity and regional integration.
The new policy is also expected to make it easier for African tourists, businesspeople and other visitors to travel to Chad.
With the announcement, Chad becomes the eighth African country reported to have introduced a blanket visa-free entry policy for African nationals.
Other countries with similar policies include Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.
Togo announced in May that African citizens with valid passports could enter the country without obtaining visas.
