Chelsea have secured a place in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after clinching a tight 2–1 win over Brazilian side Palmeiras in a dramatic quarter-final encounter.

The match, filled with tension and late twists, saw the English club fight off a strong second-half comeback attempt to edge past their South American opponents.

The encounter began with Chelsea taking the initiative early in the first half. Their efforts were rewarded in the 16th minute when Cole Palmer opened the scoring, finishing a well-crafted move that was set up by Trevoh Chalobah.

The Blues held onto their slender advantage as both teams traded possession and attempted to create clear chances, but no additional goals came before the break, with Chelsea leading 1–0 at halftime.

After the interval, Palmeiras responded with determination. Their aggressive approach paid off when E. Willian struck in the 53rd minute to level the score. His goal came after a smooth link-up with teammate R. Rios, who provided the assist that broke through Chelsea’s defense. The equaliser injected fresh intensity into the match as both sides pressed for a decisive goal.

The breakthrough moment for Chelsea came in the closing minutes of the contest. In the 83rd minute, Palmeiras suffered a setback when their goalkeeper, Weverton, inadvertently put the ball into his own net, handing the lead back to the English club.

Despite a flurry of activity from the Brazilian side in the final minutes, they were unable to find another goal to take the match into extra time or penalties.

The game also featured several yellow cards as the intensity of the battle heightened. Chelsea players Malo Gusto, Liam Delap, and Levi Colwill were all cautioned during different stages of the match, while R. Rios was booked for Palmeiras as the game wore on.

With the victory, Chelsea move into the semi-finals of the prestigious international tournament, continuing their campaign with hopes of lifting another global trophy under their belt.

The win, though hard-fought, underlined their ability to remain composed under pressure and take advantage of crucial moments.
