The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s steadfast commitment to defending the country and dismantling every threat posed by insurgents, terrorists, and violent criminal groups.

He delivered the message during an operational tour of the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Sector 2/213 Forward Operating Base in Katsina on Friday.

Addressing personnel, Air Marshal Aneke urged troops to intensify operations in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the Armed Forces to decisively eliminate all security threats. He emphasised that the Federal Government’s unprecedented support—reflected in the acquisition of modern platforms, advanced weapon systems, and robust training—places a weighty responsibility on the Nigerian Air Force to deliver clear and measurable results.

He noted that Nigeria’s security situation has grown increasingly complex, with violent non-state actors wreaking havoc and claiming innocent lives across several regions. The CAS urged airmen and airwomen to honour the sacrifices of fallen NAF heroes by staying resolute, alert, and innovative, particularly in countering evolving threats.

“We cannot relent for a moment,” he cautioned. “The nation is counting on us to restore peace and reclaim every inch of territory challenged by insurgents and criminals.”

Air Marshal Aneke applauded the troops for their professionalism and gallantry despite the operational difficulties posed by the region, declaring that the Nigerian Air Force would not rest until every threat to the country’s sovereignty was neutralised. He reaffirmed that NAF personnel would continue to strike with accuracy wherever hostile elements attempt to hide—whether in forests, valleys, or remote settlements.

Reemphasising the NAF’s core values of discipline, service, and patriotism, the CAS charged personnel to maintain operational momentum and ensure that every mission contributes meaningfully to the broader national security objective.

He also underscored his leadership philosophy anchored on decisive warfare and strong personnel welfare. According to him, success in the field must be complemented by policies that support troop comfort, morale, and readiness.

“A force that fights hard must also live well,” he said. “Under my leadership, your welfare, training, and equipment will match your courage in the field. You are the nation’s shield, and your safety and morale are non-negotiable.”

Air Marshal Aneke further assured that the NAF would continue investing in modern technologies, intelligence systems, and air-power capabilities to maintain operational dominance and deliver strategic effects on the ground.

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Idris, pledged the unwavering readiness of troops to actualise the CAS’s strategic vision. This was followed by an operational briefing by the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore C. E. Illoh, who presented the ongoing campaign plan, recent gains, and adaptive strategies across the theatre.

The visit also featured an extensive inspection of key operational and administrative facilities, including engineering, logistics, medical, sports, and welfare infrastructure. The CAS later engaged officers, airmen, and airwomen during an interactive durbar, addressing their concerns and urging them to remain steadfast.

“You represent the pride of our nation and the hope of millions who sleep in peace because you stay awake,” he remarked. “This fight is bigger than defeating enemies; it is about securing our future.”

He added that “every flight must count,” stressing the importance of intelligence-led missions in achieving operational success.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its resolve—under the leadership of Air Marshal Aneke—to deepen precision-led, intelligence-driven operations that safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect its citizens.

What You Should Know
Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke’s operational visit to OPFY Sector 2 underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s renewed push to intensify air operations against insurgents and criminal networks threatening national stability.

His message emphasised precision strikes, intelligence-led missions, and unwavering commitment to President Tinubu’s security directive. The CAS also highlighted improved government support through modern aircraft, upgraded weaponry, and better training. He assured personnel of enhanced welfare as part of his leadership philosophy.

By inspecting facilities, receiving operational briefings, and addressing troops, Aneke reinforced the Air Force’s determination to restore peace and maintain air superiority in Nigeria’s evolving security environment.
