Contrary to widespread reports of an attack on former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), his close associate, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), has debunked the claims, affirming that Buratai is “alive, well and safe.”
Usman, a former army spokesperson and aide to Buratai, described the reports as “utterly false,” attributing them to the actions of “mischief makers” bent on inciting fear and misleading the public.
“Buratai was not attacked in any way, contrary to what has been falsely reported by some online media outlets,” Usman stated, clarifying that the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin spent the Eid-el-Kabir festivities peacefully in Abuja with family and well-wishers and has remained within the Federal Capital Territory since then.
He condemned the report as a product of “reckless imagination” and fake news merchants, warning that such fabrications are “deeply irresponsible and must be condemned in the strongest terms.”
Usman also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of concern from patriotic Nigerians and supporters who reached out to verify Buratai’s safety.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, friends, and associates who reached out with concern and goodwill. Your overwhelming show of love speaks volumes about the respect General Buratai continues to enjoy across the country and beyond,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard the fake reports and remain cautious of misinformation, noting that no propaganda could damage Buratai’s legacy.
“Let this serve as a reminder to the harbingers of fake news: truth will always prevail. No amount of falsehood or malicious propaganda can tarnish the image of a man who has devoted his life to the service of our great nation,” Usman concluded.
