Global streaming powerhouse Spotify has crowned “Ahmed Ololade,” better known by his stage name “Asake,” as the most-streamed artist of all time on its Nigerian platform.

The announcement, part of Spotify’s celebratory data drop reflecting listener habits since the service launched in the country in early 2021, underscores the meteoric rise of the YBNL Nation signee.

Asake’s fusion of street Amapiano, Fuji influences, and infectious Yoruba-infused melodies has resonated deeply with local audiences, propelling him ahead of established giants in the Afrobeats pantheon.

Topping the all-time artists ranking, Asake edges out “Wizkid” in second place, with fast-rising act “Seyi Vibez” claiming third. Global Afrobeats ambassadors “Burna Boy” and “Davido” round out the top five in fourth and fifth positions, respectively. This lineup highlights a blend of veteran superstars and newer talents who have dominated streaming in Africa’s most populous nation.

Asake’s dominance extends to the individual tracks chart. His soulful single “Remember” — a standout from his 2023 sophomore album Work of Art — claims the crown as the most-streamed song of all time on Spotify Nigeria. The track’s introspective lyrics and hypnotic production have made it a staple on playlists and a cultural touchstone.

The top five most-streamed songs further cement Asake’s grip:

  1. “Remember”—Asake
  2. “Dealer”—Ayo Maff featuring Fireboy DML
  3. “Awolowo”—Fido
  4. “Kese (Dance)”—Wizkid
  5. “Lonely At The Top” – Asake

Notably, Asake secures multiple spots in the broader top rankings, with tracks like “Lonely At The Top” continuing to rack up massive plays.

The Nigerian sound’s regional influence shines beyond borders. On Spotify Kenya—also celebrating five years—Nigerian tracks overwhelmingly lead the all-time most-streamed songs list:

  1. “Asiwaju” – Ruger
  2. “”Rush”—Ayra Starr
  3. “”Bandana”—Fireboy DML & Asake
  4. “Inauma”—Bien (the lone Kenyan entry in the top five)
  5. “Lonely At The Top” – Asake

This dominance reflects Afrobeats’ growing footprint in East Africa.

In Ghana, cross-border collaboration takes center stage. The top-streamed song of all time is “Wotowoto Seasoning” by Nigerian rapper “Odumodublvck” featuring Ghanaian powerhouse “Black Sherif”—a high-energy fusion that bridges the two scenes.

Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” follows in second, while Black Sherif occupies the next three spots, signaling great local pride in homegrown talent alongside appreciation for Nigerian imports.

Spotify’s milestone data paints a broader picture of explosive growth: Afrobeats streams in Nigeria have surged dramatically since 2021, Nigerian artists on the platform have increased by over 150%, and listeners (largely young adults) have created millions of playlists while clocking billions of streaming hours.

Asake’s ascent—from breakout debut “Mr. Money With The Vibe” in 2022 to consistent chart-topper—exemplifies how streaming has democratized success in African music. In just a few years, the 29-year-old has not only outpaced legends but also redefined what viral, repeatable success looks like in the digital era.

As Spotify’s regional footprint expands, one thing is clear: the boy from Lagos, with his signature ad-libs and relentless output, currently reigns supreme on the Nigerian streaming throne—and his neighbors across West and East Africa are happily streaming along.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Asake has officially become the most-streamed artist of all time on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing even Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido. His track “Remember” also holds the #1 spot as the platform’s most-streamed song ever in the country.

In just a few years, Asake’s unique blend of street Amapiano and Fuji has made him the undisputed streaming king of Nigeria—and his sound continues to dominate across West and East Africa.
