The Court of Appeal is scheduled to deliver judgment on the consolidated appeals stemming from the national elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, which took place on November 15 and 16, 2022.

A total of nine appeals have been filed, all questioning the validity of the Ibadan convention.

Eyewitnesses report that leaders from both factions of the party were present in court ahead of the ruling. The groups, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Mohammed, were seen in attendance.

Also present was Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Mohammed-led national working committee, who was observed exchanging pleasantries with Turaki before proceedings commenced.

Already, some PDP leaders from both sides are in court.

More updates are expected as the court prepares to deliver its judgment.

What you should know

The Peoples Democratic Party has been grappling with internal disputes over leadership and convention outcomes since 2022.

The appeals at the Court of Appeal focus on whether the Ibadan convention, which elected key party officials, was conducted in line with party rules and the law.

The outcome could significantly affect the party’s leadership structure and influence its political positioning ahead of upcoming elections, as factions within the PDP continue to vie for control and legitimacy.
