Senator Nenadi Usman, the factional interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deepening poverty in Nigeria to unprecedented levels.

Speaking in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, she described the suffering endured by Nigerians under the current administration as “intolerable.”

Usman assured Nigerians that the Labour Party is dedicated to correcting what she called the “grave missteps and failures” of the APC-led federal government. She urged citizens to place their trust in the Labour Party, emphasizing its commitment to delivering a people-focused and credible alternative that will restore hope and dignity to the nation.

Commenting on the spate of defections from the Labour Party and other opposition parties to the APC, Usman labeled the trend both legally questionable and morally indefensible. She criticized politicians who switch parties after benefitting from the platforms that brought them to power.

Despite the defections, she asserted that the Labour Party remains resolute, drawing strength from the enduring support of the Nigerian people. “Many of those who left the party never truly believed in its vision for a new Nigeria. Their exit has only helped to clarify our ranks and strengthen our resolve,” she stated.

She called on aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation and unity as the party gears up for its membership revalidation, congresses, and national convention — activities already approved by the National Executive Council (NEC).

What You Should Know
Senator Nenadi Usman, a key figure in the Labour Party, has criticized the APC government for worsening economic hardship in Nigeria.

While acknowledging recent defections, she insisted that those who left never aligned with the party’s core vision.

She reaffirmed the Labour Party’s focus on reform, unity, and preparing for internal restructuring, signaling readiness to reposition itself as a credible alternative in future elections.
