A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, sparking panic among commuters and their loved ones.
The incident happened along the Kaduna corridor shortly after the train left Abuja around 11 a.m. Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense, with passengers scrambling for safety in fear and confusion.
Although the exact cause of the derailment remains unknown, there has been no confirmed report of casualties or injuries. Security sources said military personnel were immediately deployed to the site to help evacuate stranded passengers.
In a statement, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the derailment involving its Kaduna-bound AKTS service. According to NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the incident occurred at 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.
Opeifa noted that emergency rescue teams, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals had been mobilised to provide support. He further assured that a full complement of security officers was already on the ground as efforts were underway to safely transport all passengers back to Abuja.
