FG reveals resumption date for schools
The Federal Ministry of Education has categorically disowned a fabricated circular currently circulating on social media and other platforms, purporting to announce an additional three-week holiday for students of Federal Unity Colleges across the country.
The Ministry states unequivocally that the purported circular did not originate from the Federal Ministry of Education and should be completely disregarded by the public. The Ministry further reaffirms that Monday, 14 September 2026 remains the approved resumption date for all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide, as earlier announced. There has been no directive from the Federal Government or the Ministry extending the holiday or shifting resumption to 4 October 2026.
The fabricated document, dated 8 September 2026 and purportedly referenced “FME/SS/UNI/2026/128,” falsely claims that the resumption date had been moved from 13 September to 4 October 2026. The Ministry confirms that no such circular, reference or directive was issued by it.
Further exposing the document as fraudulent, the purported circular bears the name and signature of “Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Garba” as Permanent Secretary. The Ministry clarifies that Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Garba is not the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and did not authorise or sign the purported document. The Ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary is Dr. Mrs. Folake Olatunji David.
The Federal Ministry of Education therefore urges students, parents and guardians, principals, staff of Federal Unity Colleges, the media and the general public to disregard the fake circular and refrain from reproducing or further circulating its contents.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa CON, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly and seamless resumption of academic activities across the Federal Unity Colleges.
Dr. Alausa assured parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders that the Ministry continues to work with relevant authorities and stakeholders to support a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning as schools reopen.
The Minister also urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify information concerning school resumption, Ministry policies, directives and other; official announcements through the Federal Ministry of Education’s established communication channels before acting on any purported government communication.
The Ministry condemned the deliberate fabrication and circulation of official-looking government documents capable of misleading the public, creating unnecessary anxiety and disrupting the activities of schools and families.
The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to providing accurate, timely and transparent information to the public and reiterates that all Federal Unity Colleges are expected to resume on Monday, 14 September 2026, as earlier scheduled.
