Akpabio Reveals What Osun People Should Do If Harassed

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has urged residents of Osun State to exercise restraint even in the face of harassment on social media, assuring them that President Bola Tinubu has directed adequate security measures to guarantee a peaceful election on Saturday.

Akpabio made this clear while addressing an APC mega rally in Osogbo on Thursday, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

He said, “Even if you’re molested on social media, I think you should ensure restraint. Remain peaceful. Osun is going to have a very peaceful election. We don’t have need for violence; we are not violent.”

The former Akwa Ibom governor encouraged Osun residents to come out en masse and vote, stressing that security arrangements had already been put in place to protect them from intimidation at polling units, regardless of whatever provocation they may encounter.

“Social media is not the same thing as the polling unit. We are saying go to the polling units; you will not be molested,” he said.

He disclosed that the directive to strengthen security in the state came directly from the President, describing it as proof of Tinubu’s commitment to protecting the electoral process.

“The President is saying that he has put in place enough security for the good people of Osun State in general to vote peacefully come Saturday, 15th of August, 2026. Nobody is going to be harassed, and this is a pointer to the fact that he believes truly in democracy and democratic governance. He is not ready to allow any group of people to molest democracy or to molest any citizen,” he said.

Beyond the assurance on security, Akpabio also called on voters to turn out and make informed choices at the polls, regardless of which party they support.

The rally drew the presence of several top APC figures, including Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma; APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, among others.
