Former House of Representatives member Aminu Danmaliki has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danmaliki, who represented Bauchi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly and has been active in politics since 2003, announced his decision during a press briefing on Saturday.
He said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations, stressing that it was based on personal conviction and not political interests.
According to the former lawmaker, he joined the PRP because he believes political parties should focus on serving the people and addressing the country’s challenges.
Danmaliki said he left the APC peacefully and without any hostility towards the party’s leaders and members he worked with.
He also expressed concern over the hardships facing many Nigerians, including rising unemployment, challenges in the healthcare sector and limited access to quality education.
He said political leaders should introduce policies that improve the lives of citizens and create opportunities for people to succeed.
Danmaliki described the PRP as a party committed to social justice, accountability, quality education, accessible healthcare, rural development and economic growth.
He added that Bauchi State has abundant natural resources, strong agricultural potential and skilled people, but said poor leadership and weak policy implementation have slowed the state’s development.
The former lawmaker also reflected on his years in public service, noting that he has served as a journalist, commissioner, federal lawmaker, businessman and leader in the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.
He said his involvement in politics and public service has always been driven by a desire to improve the welfare of the people.
Danmaliki also declared his support for Senator Shehu Buba, who is expected to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election on the platform of the PRP.
He said he would use his political experience and network to support the party’s campaign in the state.
