Africa’s biggest reality television franchise is officially back. MultiChoice Nigeria used a press briefing on Wednesday to confirm that the eleventh season of Big Brother Naija will launch on Sunday, July 26, 2026, and this time, the stakes have never been higher.
The organizers announced that this season’s eventual winner will walk away with N160 million, comprising ₦100 million in cash and a brand-new SUV, a figure that eclipses every prize package offered since the show’s debut in 2006.
For context, last season’s winner, Opeyemi “Imisi” Ayanwale, took home a prize valued at N150 million, including N80 million cash and an SUV, after beating 28 other housemates to the finish line on October 5, 2025. The jump to N160 million signals just how far the franchise’s ambitions and its sponsorship muscle have grown.
This year’s edition carries the theme “Everything Is for the Taking,” a fitting descriptor given the raised stakes. Organizers have made clear that nothing will be handed to housemates this season; every task, alliance, and vote will have to be fought for and earned, right up to finale night.
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu returns as host, anchoring what is expected to be another marathon of live drama. The launch show airs from 7 pm on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, with the 24-hour live feed available on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49, alongside streaming options via DStv Stream and GOtv Stream. The season is expected to run for roughly ten weeks.
Long before Wednesday’s announcement, the search for this season’s housemates was already underway. Physical auditions were held between May 22 and 24 across three major cities, Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu, drawing large crowds of hopefuls.
Entry was free, but eligibility was strictly limited to applicants aged 21 and above who could present valid identification, a screening process designed to ensure only serious, well-prepared contenders made it into contention.
Sponsorship has also had a shake-up. betPawa joins as the season’s new headline sponsor, with Guinness returning as gold sponsor and Minimie coming on board as an associate sponsor, a lineup that underscores continued corporate confidence in the franchise nearly a decade after its 2017 revival.
With the house set to open its doors in just over a week, anticipation across Nigeria and the wider continent is already building for what organizers are billing as the franchise’s biggest and most competitive season yet.
