Former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after arriving from Enugu on a chartered flight.
According to reports, Nnaji was taken into custody shortly after he arrived at the airport. Sources quoted by Premium Times said he is expected to be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for questioning.
The ICPC has reportedly been investigating the former minister since he resigned from office last year. The investigation followed allegations that he forged his academic certificates.
Earlier, Naija News reported that Nnaji denied claims that a court had ordered his arrest. He maintained that he was neither in hiding nor avoiding law enforcement authorities.
His response came after a recent Premium Times publication about an alleged court order connected to an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The reported arrest is expected to allow the ICPC to continue its investigation into the certificate forgery allegations.
