Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun.

The governor’s decision was announced on Wednesday in a statement by his Special Adviser, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju.

According to the statement, the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative, Alhaja Fausat Sanni, has been moved to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion to replace Balogun with immediate effect.

Governor Makinde thanked Balogun for her service and contributions to the development of Oyo State. He also wished her success in her future endeavours.

Sanni is returning to a familiar role, having served as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion between 2019 and 2023. She also served as the Commissioner for Special Duties before she was recently redeployed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its strike in all public primary and secondary schools across Oyo State and directed teachers to return to work on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The union said the decision followed fresh discussions with the Oyo State Government and assurances that security would be strengthened after the kidnapping of teachers and learners in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by the Oyo State Chairman of the union, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Olukayode Salami, the NUT said its national leadership approved the suspension after reviewing the security situation and considering appeals from the state government and other stakeholders.

The union explained that the strike, which was declared to protest the abduction of teachers and students in Oriire, was suspended in the interest of teachers, learners and the general public.

“The Nigeria Union of Teachers hereby directs all public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to resume official duties on Thursday, July 2, 2026,” the statement read.

The NUT also said the Oyo State Government had assured the union that efforts would continue to secure the safe release of the abducted victims and improve security in schools and other vulnerable communities.
