The Osun State Police Command has ordered the suspension of political rallies in Oriade Local Government Area following security concerns and intelligence reports suggesting that political activities in the area could lead to violence.

The directive was announced on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, approved the decision after efforts by the police to restore peace among political stakeholders failed to produce an agreement.

The command explained that the action became necessary because tensions among political actors in the council area continued to rise despite attempts by security authorities to encourage dialogue and peaceful engagement.

Police said the suspension was introduced to prevent any disturbance of public peace and to protect residents and their property from possible security threats.

The command noted that maintaining law and order remained a priority and that preventive measures were needed to avoid any outbreak of violence.

It was also disclosed that a peace meeting arranged by the police for the affected political parties could not take place as planned.

The inability to hold the meeting reportedly contributed to the growing tension in the area.

As a result, all political parties, candidates, supporters, and residents have been directed to comply with the suspension order and avoid activities that could worsen the situation.

The police assured the public that they remain committed to ensuring security across Osun State and called on residents to conduct themselves peacefully and cooperate with law enforcement agencies while efforts continue to maintain stability in the local government area.
