The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party worsened on Thursday after the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, disclosed that security agencies had invited former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, Kabiru Turaki and others over alleged impersonation linked to the formation of a rival interim National Working Committee.
The latest development underscores the intensifying struggle for control of the opposition party, with the Anyanwu-led camp insisting it remains the only leadership structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission following the Supreme Court judgment currently at the centre of the dispute.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Anyanwu dismissed suggestions of conflicting interpretations surrounding the Certified True Copy of the apex court’s ruling.
According to him, the matter has already been formally reported to security agencies.
“We have written to the security agencies, the police and the DSS, over the issue of impersonation, and they have already invited Wabara, Turaki and others who presented themselves at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, where the so-called interim NWC was formed,” he said.
“So, the matter is now before Nigeria’s security agencies, and we hope those involved will eventually be prosecuted.”
Anyanwu maintained that the Supreme Court ruling leaves no room for ambiguity and said copies of the Certified True Copy are available for public scrutiny.

“The CTC has been officially released by the Supreme Court. We have copies and can make them available to you as members of the media,” he stated.
He further argued that INEC had already verified the current PDP leadership, insisting that only one recognised structure exists.
“You know the truth and should try to stand by it. There is only one PDP today. INEC has been here and has verified the current NWC.”
Questioning the operational legitimacy of the rival leadership bloc, Anyanwu challenged its members to disclose their official base of operation.
“Today, we are here holding our press conference. Where are they? Where are they operating from? What is their address? It is a simple question.”
He also advised media organisations to seek proper legal interpretation of the Supreme Court judgment before publishing reports that could worsen tensions within the party.
“We will make the Supreme Court CTC available for you to read. I am sure every media organisation has a legal department. You can forward it to your legal department so that you do not misquote it and create issues that may become the subject of litigation,” he added.
The development marks another chapter in the prolonged leadership crisis that has continued to threaten the PDP’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
What You Should Know
The PDP’s leadership crisis has become one of the biggest challenges facing Nigeria’s main opposition party as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
The dispute centres on rival interpretations of a Supreme Court judgment and competing claims to the party’s National Working Committee structure. The involvement of security agencies signals a new escalation that could further deepen divisions.
Political analysts warn that unless resolved quickly, the crisis could weaken the PDP’s electoral readiness, complicate candidate selection processes and undermine efforts to present a united opposition front against the ruling party.
