The immediate past Commissioner for Works and Housing in Borno State, Mustapha Gubio, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form ahead of the next election cycle.
In a widely circulated photo shared by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Illiya, the aspirant, alongside Tahir Monguno, presented the form to Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri.
In a brief post, Illiya wrote, “Zulum Receives Borno APC Guber Aspirant, Engr. Mustapha Gubio.”
Gubio becomes the first aspirant to obtain the APC gubernatorial nomination form in the state, signaling the early start of political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
Before stepping down, Gubio served as Commissioner for Works and Housing, overseeing several infrastructure projects across Borno State.

His move follows the earlier dissolution of the State Executive Council by Governor Zulum in March, a decision aimed at allowing interested cabinet members to pursue elective positions.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, the directive required all commissioners to hand over to permanent secretaries.
“The decision is to provide an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections,” the statement read.
