Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has accused Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of ignoring the desperate pleas of residents in Ose Local Government Area, describing a region plagued by collapsing infrastructure, non-existent social services, and decades of government inaction.
Afod, who says he has been quietly lobbying the state government for nearly a month, broke his silence on Monday evening, declaring he would no longer “keep quiet” while citizens in Ose LGA suffer. In a video message addressed directly to the governor, the actor painted a grim picture of communities cut off from basic modern amenities.
“Some communities have been without power supply for the past 20 years,” Afod stated. “Idoani has been in darkness for eight years.”
He then turned his camera on the education crisis, zooming in on the CAC Nursery and Primary School in Idoani and another unnamed school in the same local government. “All the teachers have run away,” he said. “All the children in these communities no longer attend school.” With no functional classrooms and no accessible roads to reach them, entire generations of children are effectively locked out of education, Afod lamented.
The actor reserved some of his sharpest criticism for the state of healthcare and economic infrastructure. General hospitals in Idoani have been closed down, he revealed, leaving residents without reliable medical care. There is not a single commercial bank operating in the entire area, forcing locals to travel long distances for even the most basic financial transactions.
Roads, Afod stressed, are virtually non-existent. “There’s no accessible road to all the communities in Ose LG,” he said, his frustration evident. “You are at peace managing the resources of the state poorly the way you like.”
In a direct challenge to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Afod called on the state chief executive to immediately convene a working meeting with key stakeholders: Ose Local Government Chairman Hon. CK Ojo, the House of Representatives member for the constituency, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, and the Senator representing the district.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa, you think I will keep quiet if you ignore my plea for Ose Local Government. No, I’m not keeping quiet,” Afod declared. “How long will Ose Local Government continue like this?”
The outburst marks a rare public intervention by a prominent entertainment figure into Ondo State politics and comes at a time when many rural communities across the state continue to grapple with decaying infrastructure despite repeated campaign promises of development. Afod’s video, which urges viewers to “watch this together” with the local government chairman, has already begun circulating widely among Ondo residents and political observers.
As of Tuesday morning, neither the governor’s office nor the Ose Local Government Chairman had issued a public response to Afod’s latest plea. Residents of Idoani and surrounding communities say they are watching closely to see whether the actor’s high-profile intervention will finally jolt the authorities into action.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Despite repeated pleas from Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa continues to ignore the severe neglect of Ose Local Government Area.
For nearly a month, Afod has highlighted the dire conditions: communities without electricity for up to 20 years (Idoani for 8 years), collapsed education system with teachers fleeing schools, closed general hospitals, absence of commercial banks, and completely inaccessible roads.
Ose LGA stands as a stark example of rural abandonment, where basic livelihood needs — power, education, healthcare, and roads — have been totally neglected, leaving residents, especially children, without hope or opportunity.
Governor Aiyedatiwa must urgently engage local leaders to address this long-standing crisis before it becomes irreversible.
