The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment for 1,659 workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration in 2016 and 2019.

The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday. The statement was signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

FCTA Event

According to Ezeh, the confirmed workers were among the 2,281 staff members who participated in the confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28.

He explained that a total of 2,512 workers were invited to take the examination, but only 2,281 attended.

Ezeh revealed that 224 officers failed to appear for the exercise, raising concerns that some of them might be ghost workers within the system.

“Some of the workers who sat for the confirmation examination were employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others were employed shortly before the minister assumed office in August 2023,” he said.

FCTA Event

The commission chairman added that preparations had also been concluded to conduct promotion exercises for 2025 and 2026 following approval by the minister.

He said the move aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the welfare and morale of workers in the FCT administration.

Ezeh advised affected staff members to visit the FCT Civil Service Commission’s official website to check the status of their confirmation.

What you should know

The Federal Capital Territory Administration conducted a confirmation examination for workers employed in 2016 and 2019 as part of efforts to regularise staff appointments and address concerns about ghost workers in the system.

The approval of 1,659 confirmations is expected to strengthen the FCTA workforce while preparations are underway for promotion exercises scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
