The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has issued emergency hotline numbers for Nigerians residing in or travelling through parts of the Middle East as regional tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran continue to escalate.

In a public advisory shared on its official X account, the commission called on Nigerians in the affected countries to save the emergency contact lines and promptly reach out to the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission if they encounter distress or urgent situations.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the potential regional impact of the conflict in the Middle East, which has heightened fears about the safety of foreign nationals living and working across several Gulf and Levant nations.

According to the notice, the emergency hotlines are intended to ensure that Nigerians abroad can quickly access consular assistance as the security situation in the region continues to evolve.

The advisory covers several Nigerian diplomatic missions across the Middle East, including those in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait City, Tel Aviv, Doha, Beirut, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Amman.

Each of the missions has been assigned specific emergency contact numbers to enable faster communication and support for Nigerians who may require urgent help.

NiDCOM also encouraged Nigerians living abroad to remain alert and carefully follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities in their host countries.

The commission further advised citizens to maintain regular contact with Nigerian embassies and consulates in their respective locations to receive timely updates and necessary assistance during the unfolding crisis.

In addition, the agency stressed the importance of relying only on verified and official information while taking all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety as developments in the region continue.

What you should know

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission was established to engage with and protect the interests of Nigerians living abroad.

During international crises or security threats, the commission works with Nigerian embassies and consulates to provide emergency assistance, evacuation coordination, and critical updates for citizens overseas.

With tensions rising in the Middle East due to ongoing military confrontations involving Iran and its regional rivals, several governments have issued travel advisories and safety warnings for their nationals in the region.
